In December 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul announced 11 transformational projects for Chinatown as part of a $20 million NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative, and the Light Up Chinatown street lanterns initiative was one of them!

P.S. 唐人街 is the old-school Cantonese way of referring to Chinatown.
